Reagan putting in place gun control against the republican party's typical agenda specifically because of the black panthers being black people that were effectively self policing and putting a stop to police brutality is pretty telling of where I believe all gun control in the US really stems from

Exactly my point. California and the federal govt already had plenty of laws making certain types of gun ownership criminal, but they still needed more control, so they decided that what was previously common and lawful was now an egregious violation of societal ethics.

I think there exist reasonable restrictions on arms, specifically those that pose a danger to society and are not in common use for lawful purposes

I also think there exists reasonable restrictions on who may own arms, specifically those we already deny their civil rights like the mentally deficient, incarcerated, and underage.

What do you think we should do about underage school shooters (and who we should punish, the fact we haven't prosecuted the people whose guns they let get stolen TO ANY EXTENT is lowkey criminal). I'm not necessarily pro 2a, but I recognize reasonable people should have the right to hold (I think we can make the background check stronger too, but i don't think anyone's really opposed to that within reason)

I don't have a problem with checking someone's background for specific disqualifying reasons at the point of purchase, I have a problem with the government using that system as an excuse to surveil everyone

I’m glad you seem like a reasonable person. Just a point of info from my personal life- I’m not allowed to own a gun bc of my mental health, I’d probably be dead now if I did. So in that regard, it is kinda saving my life yk? I get it’s a touchy subject that probably needs to come down to individual assessments over blanket polices

I know I’m joining in, but thank you for sharing that. It gives a lot of people a much more “graspable” idea of its positives. I’m extremely pro-gun, but I’m also extremely supportive of security measures. I like the idea of a “pre-approval” quiz that makes sure that you understand basic safety and are in a stable mindset. It’s not an easy problem to find a fair solution to. Anyway, have a good day and I wish you the best of luck with your life as a whole and your mental health in particular.

I appreciate the kind words my friend :) yeah it’s definitely not an easy problem, but one that I wish more Americans understood the nuances of. I’m definitely better than my worst, but still almost 3 years into finding the right meds. Hopefully that’ll come soon though, definitely exhausting trying a new regiment every 6 months

I can definitely relate to the meds issue. I am on anticonvulsants, one set of them I tried a few years ago came out to giving me false traumatic memories… I still have a fear that those memories might actually have been real. Any sort of mental medication is a nightmare that might eventually give you a blessing.
