Almost. Im asking you whether or not ice sent them there with the intention of them being tortured.

In my question I also included an implicit argument for my position but honestly I think we’re just gonna have to work our way there.

upvote 1 downvote

I could see that as being a true statement. I don’t think the guards were doing it by their own separate from instructions from supervisors or policy

upvote 1 downvote
user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 3w

Okay. If you could see it being true then consider this. Why would they deport immigrants who *aren’t from El Salvador* to CECOT (a prison already famous for torture), if the goal was not to have those people tortured?

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> mushy.the.mushroom 3w

I dont see how that makes the “primary purpose” of all deportations being that of torture, we have already agreed that not the majority of deportations go there

Okay but you do agree that this organization has sent people to CECOT who don’t actually belong there, explicitly so they can be tortured. Many of them innocent.

And you understand that abuse was mandated from the top down, right? Like, the ice officers didn’t have control of where Kilmar got sent.

upvote 1 downvote

I would say that’s correct, I don’t disagree with that statement. I just don’t think that makes torture the primary purpose of deportation itself

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #4 3w

I didn’t say it was the purpose of deportation, I said it was the *current* purpose of *ICE*. And even if it wasn’t, why would you want to work for such a clearly evil organization?

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon

How can it be the current primary of ice if the majority of their deportations dont end in torture? And I have already answered that, I think one can do good and influence policy towards less harm

If my local police force every once in a while scooped up an innocent dude and beat and raped him for like 9 months before letting him out, apologizing, and doing it again, I wouldn’t be able to focus on any of the fuckin good stuff they might be doing. And no amount of criminals being arrested would make it worth it to live in that town.

People did that during the civil rights era, people joined police departments with the intent of reducing discrimination.
