America in general has an obsession with the quick fix. Everyone is too stupid to understand underlying causes of a problem so they just want to fix the problem without fixing the system that created the problem

What is the underlying issue?

Take crime for example. The underlying issue is poverty. Everyone only wants to throw people in jail rather than fix poverty. Jail isn’t a deterrent to crime and doesn’t make someone less likely to commit a crime but it’s much easier to lock people up than spend money ensuring their needs are met and they don’t need to turn to crime

We spend an absurd amount of money on poverty and people are still poor

We need to figure out what causes poverty

Not nearly enough. We also spend an absurd amount on prisons and police and there’s still crime.

Yeah because police and prisons don’t reduce crime they deal with criminals, poor people often commit more crimes, poverty is the big issue but we need to address what causes it instead of just giving people money

A house to come home to and food to eat would reduce poverty. It’s not exactly easy to find a stable place to live without a job and it’s really hard to find a job without a stable residence. Poverty happens because people’s needs are not being met. People who’s needs are met are happier and far more productive

You can provide a house and food as means to pull people out of poverty but living in government subsidied housing and living on food stamps still means you are in poverty until you can be self sufficient

Those things do help pull people out of poverty though as well as UBI

Yes but they don’t solve poverty, what made those people poor in the first place, unless we figure that out many more could slip down the same path
