 Columbus committed genocide against a whole race of native people and we lie to children about it today and say we all have a loving dinner together until waiting to tell them the truth when they are ready. Happy thanksgiving thank you Native Americas!

Those were two different colonists, but that said the pilgrims definetly aren’t as innocent as people think

Okay woah that’s a lot of run on sentences but I’m very into Native American and colonial history so I can try my best to explain and answer any questions you may have. So Columbus was the guy leading the first voyage yeah. The people he interacted with were called the Taino. He participated in the initial enslavement of the Caribbean islands, but died when the conquest was just starting out

Im vv curious what you mean, i only read people apart of Columbus team speak out against his atrocities on the native people and his own crew. I know there was another guy that did the same thing to the Aztecs but Columbus was the- head of the voyage to America bc he was looking for India and then- called natives Indians bc he didn’t want to admit he was wrong 😭. What’s the guys name so I can do more research?

If you’re thinking about the conquistador known for leading the conquest of the Aztecs that would be Hernan Cortes, who allied his forces with anti-Aztec native groups like the Tlaxcaltecs and managed to take over the Aztec empire through a mix of warfare and deceit (like taking their emperor hostage)

But all the Spanish conquests are different from thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was about a group of religiously conservative Englishmen who departed the Netherlands (they had left England already but didn’t want their kids speaking Dutch) and settled in Massachusetts.

Thanksgiving comes from a feast celebration between the Pilgrims and the native Wampanoag, who helped provide the pilgrims with food. However as English settlement in New England expanded these native communities would be massacred, enslaved, and displaced
