So, everyone is aware at this point that Trump’s tariffs did nothing to bolster domestic manufacturing right? Like genuinely, we do all agree on that now yeah? If so, what exactly was the point of them again?

well they never went into effect atp. but one could surmise that the point was to stockpile and eat a spike in imports so that they’d be lower moving forward. and also probably just acts as a deterrent to stop companies from deciding to opt for them in general this stands to make GDP numbers look good bc the calculation is basically GDP=domestic economy + (exports-imports)

They did go into effect, for almost a year. We ended up seeing exactly what you described. What makes you think they never went into effect?

courts trying to say we can’t do tariffs and eluding to back pay. which i doubt the back pay happens at all but the original declaration of tariffs just never got to be implemented to the extent suggested and is now trying to be wholly reversed.

Okay, but Trump’s liberation day tariffs were implemented (after a couple pauses). Stayed that way until the recent Supreme Court decision. The lower courts ruled against Trump, but there was no enforcement until the Supreme Court made its decision.

Nooo I’m pretty sure the tariffs went into effect I remember seeing many a post from women buying orders from SHEIN that were being held hostage until the tariffs were paid
