Hi! I’m an independent. Did you know you can choose not to register as a Democrat because you don’t believe they’re far ENOUGH left to represent you? Why is the assumption that every independent is a fence-sitting centrist?
I say this as a well meaning left leaning person but if your average 40 year old independent Dad with two kids and a mortgage saw what yall post in here I don’t think they would touch the Democratic Party with a 10 foot pole

Also independent for this reason. Just cause I’m independent doesn’t mean I’m waiting to be convinced by a party.

Personally, I’m registered as a Democrat to push the party further left. Socialists and progressives run as Democrats often and voting for them during a primary is a great way to accomplish that. It’s much more common on state and municipal levels rather than federal, so I enjoy being able to push progressive candidates through in my city. Philly’s DA Larry Krasner, Zohran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, and AOC are great examples of this!

I know what I believe in. I vote for whoever aligns closest with that (and actually has a chance to win). Frequently, that’s the dems. I guarantee I hate them more than the hypothetical 40 year old independent dad. But i grit my fucking teeth until something better comes along

YUPPPP. We’re not independent because we don’t know different. We’re independent because we have our own beliefs that don’t align with either party. I also typically vote for Democrats and you’re on the dot with hating them more than the hypothetical 40 year old. I feel like people view independent voters very incorrectly.
