The Tohono O’odham live on both sides of the U.S.-Mexican border and predate the existence of either the USA or Mexico. Building a border wall not only separates their traditional lands but also their communities (particularly when the community in Mexico is more impoverished and relies on those in Arizona). The O’odham struggle from the impacts of cross-border smuggling and migration, but are clear in not wanting themselves to be separated between countries.
