I feel like one of the biggest traps liberals/leftists are falling into rn is the idea that pointing out this administrations hypocrisy is going to change anyone’s mind.

Going “haha gotcha” about social issues is how we propagate that idea that the current divide in this country is a culture war, and not a battle against people who are genuinely evil and will stop at nothing to increase their profits

As a liberal or leftist or whatever (idc enough abt the etymology to know but I voted for Kamala), we NEED to have more discussions like this. It’s really tempting to point at Trump et al and think “wow they’re fucking stupid!”, but the fact that they’re winning elections as frequently as they are means we’re are doing something fundamentally wrong. Too many liberals/leftists are afraid to admit that and it’s impeding the ability to fix it

In terms of cognitive dissonance, putting someone’s conflicting thoughts directly in their face is actually more likely to make them double down on those beliefs, while providing them the information to see how the people they support have lied to them and letting them reach that conclusion on their own is much more likely to cause a meaningful change
