When can we admit that gerrymandering is bad no matter who does it and that “it’s okay ‘cause they’re doing it” is not a valid excuse?

Well uh… a federal gerrymandering bill was shot down by Republicans so they greenlit Democrats doing it

No because it is ok to do it if republicans try to cheat again. We gain nothing by taking the high road.

you understand that constantly taking the high road with a party as shameless as conservatives doesnt stop gerrymandering right? after the cali and virginia maps passed we now have republicans calling out gerrymandering as a whole whereas before they were fully supportive of trumps gerrymandering efforts. thats movement in the right direction

This is one of those things that’s gonna have to get worse before it gets better

Just because politicians do it doesn’t mean you have to support it. I understand that if you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage if you don’t but I’m not gonna sit here and flip flop between defending or condemning it every two years depending on who’s taking advantage of the system more. It’s an unfortunate problem that doesn’t have a clear solution at the moment that I can think of but that doesn’t mean I have to condone it

no, the point is that republicans will not stop gerrymandering until gerrymandering is used against them. you have to fight back to get the other side to agree to stop the fight. if republicans can gerrymander with 0 pushback they have no incentive to stop. all the dem gerrymanders are done 1) with the voters consent and 2) for the express purpose of evening out republicans
