Ok so I’m an atheist and I can see OP’s point in that like. Many religious people basically claim they only follow laws and moral standards bc they believe there will be divine retribution if they don’t That said I’m not sure it’s actually true. I think deprived of faith folks who are already decent would find new reasons to be decent. plenty of the “devout” are awful despite their faith so why not the reverse
