Desperation, a way to feel safe/secure and make sense of this weird world/universe, a way to be 'cleansed' of all wrong-doing and sin, the sentiment of some higher power who has your back, and when ppl really get super low/hit rock bottom they turn to god out of sheer desperation pm. A super easy way out of most really hard situations. Take it all off of you and this nonsensical world, put it all on 'God'.

a huge part of the religion is trust. people put their trust/faith in god. they show they are devoted to him and the salvation he provides. and it is all the more meaningful to do it, and its seen as insulting to demand that god reveal himself to you. god does not need to prove himself
