They’re not really viewed the same though, because on the one hand israel is a closer ally to the US than either Russia or Ukraine so it makes sense it would get more attention. On the other hand the consensus is that Russia and Ukraine are two countries at war, whereas many see the Gaza conflict as one disproportionately stronger nation using hamas as an excuse to commit genocide (you can argue against this if you want but fact of the matter is that that’s generally how they’re seen)
1. People probably would care given the whole genocide thing but that’s one factor as to why probably a reason why it gets more attention from American media 2. Sure they’re disproportionate, but not more so than Israel with its insane amount of military support from the US vs hamas and the rest of Gaza, which doesn’t even have a formal military like Ukraine does (+ support from the US) and 3. I won’t argue that that’s not happening but this ties in with my previous point
This is so obvious to me I feel like you’re almost talking around it. Let’s say Gaza was like Ukraine people thought they were gonna get rolled over in a week and they ended up holding on to territory without doing the nontraditional warfare. People wouldn’t not gaf if anything I feel like people on here would be more energized that they were holding on.
1. Yes, but the US and israel have been allied for way longer 2. The attack was carried out by hamas which is a militant group, not Gaza’s formal military, people in Gaza who had nothing to do with hamas don’t deserve to be killed and have their land decimated in an entirely disproportionate response for it 3. Can’t help you with that one
1. You’re just agreeing with me at this point, that is the populism narrative that it’s U.S. imperialism. 2. Idk how that helps your point at all. A population supporting a party that did a terrorist attack would be seen as less innocent than one that didn’t. I don’t get the implication for 3 that people don’t see it as Russia being genocidal is that the point?
The US and Europe continues to support Ukraine through military support and have literally caused a fuel crisis in Russia. It’s not talked about much because it’s always been about giving Ukraine just enough to hold off Russia, never enough for them to win the war. The longer Russia is at war the more they suffer economically, which is the goal of western nations.
They wouldn’t suffer economically if Ukraine occupied parts of Russia? All of the U.S. aid is old aid coming in from the Biden admin there isn’t new legislation. As for Europe wtf would they be playing games? They do not want Russia to have all of the population and resources of Ukraine (2nd largest country in Europe) Estonia cumulatively is giving around 3% of their gdp just to this war, Denmark is giving around the same. European Countries are giving a significant amount.
You can can argue all day long that these conflicts are exactly the same but in reality they’re just not. Ukraine, a country with it’s own established government and military, got almost the entire world’s support from the get-go (which is a good thing). Gaza had none of those. And seriously? Most Gazans had absolutely nothing to do with hamas, and even if they did it doesn’t even matter since the idf is just targeting any palestinian with a pulse (children that especially had nothing
to do with it). None of this is to say that what’s going on in Ukraine isn’t awful (since Russia is targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure) but that conflict is very clearly aggressor country vs country defending itself whereas Gaza has been basically defenseless facing a genocide justified by the actions of few
