I say this as a socialist myself: a large subset of the online left strikes me as the ideological equivalent of “sola fide” Protestants.

What I mean by this is that many seem to have a notion that being a good person is nothing more than a matter of having the “perfect” beliefs, not a matter of doing tangible good in the world. That one can be as insufferable and malignant as they please, and still maintain their position of moral superiority so long as they have the “right” opinions

i love learning things it’s unfortunate it’s mostly things about astrophysics that interest me. like fuck is knowing how a magnetar crystallizes the quantum vaccuum state gonna do for me at the polls

This is true, but it’s also for republicans as well. We all want to “other” each other to feel better. At the same time we never have the self reflection to see where we also might have short comings. Black people talk about this bc they see a rise in support of gay rights while not doing enough to uphold and understand disenfranchised/discrimination in other areas.
