I see so many teachers complaining about kids suddenly not being able to read, it’s like there must be some kind of massive widespread virus that is known for causing problems in the brain or something, how odd

I’ve had COVID three times and each time the symptoms were increasingly more severe when I was sick, it took me increasing amounts of time to recover, and I feel increasingly stupider. I don’t know how I was whipping out entire AP essays in my 50-minute classes when now I often stare blankly at questions I’m supposed to answer because either I can’t comprehend the question itself, or I can’t get my brain to make the connections to answer it

I don’t think Covid is to blame for the decrease in childhood literacy, but I am so sorry and long COVID is so brutal. It makes me extremely angry when anti-vax shitheads act like if you survive Covid then you’re fine, as if Covid doesn’t have massive health impacts for the rest of someone’s life.

I mean I don’t think COVIF entirely to blame and there are a lot of other factors that go into the literacy crisis, but I still think we need to acknowledge that COVID infections have likely played a significant part

I also talk a lot about how increasing cost of living is a huge (and maybe the biggest) contributing factor to the literacy crisis, but tn I was just mad about COVID because there are so many sick people at my school right now who act like their sole purpose on this earth is to spread as much disease as possible lol
