
My arabic tutor lives in southern lebanon and had to flee north at 4am yesterday. Had a call with him later and he hung up halfway through the call cause he thought there was an airstrike Im havent even thought about the gas prices. Some people need the perspective to see that were lucky that gas is our biggest concern right now.
I mean I guess that’s what I’m saying, they do have empathy for people very close to them but rarely beyond 1st or 2nd level relationships. They can be motivated to do things for the good of those others when convinced (Nigerian Christians for example) but I wouldn’t call that empathy, more like response to manipulation from the top that looks like empathy at a glance.
Not trying to be too dramatic but it’s just wild the number of times I’ve been taking about some foreign conflict with a conservative leaning person where they’ve said that they don’t really care what happens to gazans or Ukrainians…etc., it’s not their problem and they think they have no part to play in it
