How so? I’m not talking a side but I’m curious about your rationale

This is also a big issue. People thinking individualism is only about individual rights. So they consider any attack on individualism an attack on those rights, and on the other side people think anyone who thinks it’s important to preserve protections for those rights must be a completely individualist. Which just isn’t true and reductive arguments

The only thing addressed in this post was individualism being called a cancer to society. I simply pointed out anti-individualism is a core principle of authoritarianism. You just created a lot of nuance based on your own beliefs and not specific to this situation

Individualism is doing harm to society, though. Being the opposite of individualism isn’t authoritarian, it’s collectivism. You are actively playing into the misconception I’m speaking of

People thinking everyone needs to fend for themselves. There should be no taxes and thus no social welfare or services. The idea of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps is a myth and people should want community to support

Individualism is people thinking everyone needs to fend for themselves and being scared of community. Not to be confused with independence and personal autonomy.

They are not mutually exclusive. The two can coexist. Calling individualism a cancer on society implies there’s no misconception here. He wants everyone to fall into line whether they want to or not. Authoritarianism.

You’re making a lot of assumptions! And you know what they say about assuming things….

Individualism is what leads to subdivisions eating up all of our land. It’s what leads to packed highways and limited public transit options. It’s what leads to service and welfare cuts.

There’s no assumptions when you read something verbatim

And they say nothing about forcing anyone to do anything and nothing about authoritarianism! Verbatim, they are anti individualism. The opposite of individualism is again, not authoritarianism. You’re either too dumb to understand that (unlikely) or making incorrect assumptions (likely)

And forced collectivism is what leads to famine, oppression, and death. We can both point out the negatives to something. That doesn’t make it a cancer on society

They didn’t say they were anti individualism, they said it’s a cancer on society. Verbatim means verbatim. If OP meant something different then they would say something different. When someone calls something a cancer, they want it gone

Never mind I’m starting to think the former is the more likely answer you’re really not listening to a single word anyone says
