As an atheist, I believe in nothingness after death, i.e. we all have the same fate regardless of our actions. Given that, our purpose is bound to the time we have alive in the universe. My philosophy is that society should aim towards increasing the well-being of all people. I have chosen a career where I am able to contribute toward this goal while simultaneously participating on my interests. This world is far from perfect but I find joy in trying to make it better
Live life with a positive purpose. I can get hit by a bus tomorrow and die happily knowing I put my best foot forward everyday. Do well in classes, work hard in the gym, put care into the relationships you have with others, and use your abilities to improve your communities. It feels incredibly freeing.
Well not to be crass. There’s just no proof a God exists. And once I realized I’d never seen anything that substantiates the claim, the moral and ethical aspects of christianity began to become more accessible to critical thought. The things I care about and value are more in tune with what I believe because I no longer have a set entity to tell me what’s right and wrong. I also find it beautiful now that this life is all we have, so it’s important to make the most of it
I believe humans evolved as social creatures and as such are instinctually obligated to help each other so it isn’t that I think there will be rewards or punishments for what I do as much as what I do should help as many people as possible. Charity, awareness, anything you can do to help others will inevitably make you feel like a better person and therefore a more positive person
