I’m a leftist, but I don’t think having large scale immigration from countries that have poor women’s and human rights records is great

if you were a leftist, you’d understand why those countries have poor rights records. 9 times out of 10 it’s because their country was raped by colonialism, and the other 1 out of 10 is the colonial country. the US is actively stripping rights from marginalized communities and slavery is still legal here. we have no moral high ground

Do you genuinely think Americans are somehow glowingly better on those? It's a human defect and I am sure poor conditions exacerbate it. They're trying to emigrate for a reason.

no because you have a point, and you can recognize the colonialism point as well that was made in the comments. yes, this is a result of the violent actions of the united states government. that does not mean i also want to invite violence into my neighborhood just because some old guys with money wanted to start a war🤷‍♀️

To add onto this, it’s more than likely the immigrants from those countries are escaping FROM those abuses being perpetrated.

Might be a crazy concept, but I think you can fully understand this while also acknowledging that people fleeing from those countries have ingrained world views, especially around women’s role in society.
