I love being downvoted for real life experience I have. Yeah I’ve studied in Poland and quite literally all the USSR generation alive fucking hated every bit of USSR being shoved onto them. Like, real people say this. They host tours of their (failed) socialist projects as a reminder of how awful it was. They don’t refer to The Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw as “Stalin’s Dick” to be complimentary.

Absolutely. These people think they’re being oppressed by a fascist government while openly criticizing them. Something definitely not possible during the USSR days. Spoiled brats really. I used to consider myself pretty leftist in college when I was studying this—my major was political science in fact which is how I got all the Polish political exposure—and the experience I had there was pretty eye-opening so it’s not like I’ve always been biased against them.

That’s an outdated term. There is more than one Gaelic language. It’s just called Irish (in English). Or Gaeilge in Irish. And bc my brother and I paid for a class to learn and we’ve spent months in Ireland, collectively. Unfortunately I didn’t take it as seriously as my brother but he’s almost fluent. It was important to us to try to decolonize our language in tribute to our ancestors who were forcibly banned from speaking their own language in their own country
