This take is going to be unpopular here but I can actually see some life skill merit, career benefit, etc in serving in the armed forces. If only serving in the U.S. armed forces didn’t mean dying for billionaires interests

I would have 100% joined after college because their pilot training is far and away the best in the world, but I can’t consciously join up when this is the state of things

I agree. I think that would solve a lot of our gun problems too if every citizen had a year or two of training and familiarity by default. That’s how Switzerland does it, anyways

I honestly wouldn’t even mind it too much. There’s great civilian training in large swaths of the military. cybersecurity, vehicle repair, heavy equipment operations, healthcare. Add to that the stress management and life discipline that inherently comes with it and I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing
