I think the Chinese EV market is the main concern. Listen to the Ford CEO talk about ts and he just gets depressed. American auto manufacturers have no chance at survival the moment American consumers are allowed to buy Chinese cars. The Chinese market is both cutting edge and hyper-competitive, so American companies can compete with neither their prices nor quality. It’s not for our privacy that we can’t buy Chinese products; it’s to protect our inept corporate overlords.
The CCP, if they really found themselves unable to access the data of American consumers (something I don’t find likely), could just buy our information directly from the various All-American databrokers that collect info on us with impunity. Our TVs record what we watch, sometimes even what we say; our cars know where we drive, our phones know who we speak to and what we talk about. All of this is for sale. The federal government doesn’t give a fuck about the privacy of its citizens.
