So genocides are not defined by the number of ppl killed. Reminder for Zionists on YikYak: before you try to disprove that Israel is committing genocide it may behoove you to know what genocide actually is

A UN commission of independent members have made a legal finding of genocide, it’s already been proven

An independent commission of the UN has no legal authority to make legal findings

Yes it does. It is clear you don’t understand how the Un works. Independent just means that the ppl on it weren’t Israeli, Palestinian, or their allies. Ppl with no stake in the game

You responded to my factual assertion that a UN commission does not have the legal authority to declare a genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention with… the definition of independent. And you’re dishing out “illiterate”?

You said an independent commission has no authority on the grounds that it is independent. You didn’t mention the Geneva convention, and you would have been wrong if you had. Again, it comes from the charter. The Geneva convention defines, amongst other things, the crime of genocide, not how the UN operates

Correct. Because being independent does not automatically make you a legal authority on a matter lol

An independent commission isn’t a special kind of commission. Independent functions as an adjective, not part of a proper name. I can’t believe I have to spell this out on an app made for college students

The ICC is legally independent of the UN to avoid the political pressure of countries like the U.S. influencing its decisions. It is wholly endorsed by the UN

Anonymous replying to -> OP 8w

ICC and the ICJ have different functions. The ICC prosecutes individuals for crimes. And they don’t even have Genocide as a charge currently out for Netanyahu. Only varying war crimes. Once again, the UN commission has no legal authority. The ICJ does to declare a country committed genocide, and the ICC to charge individuals for it. Neither of which currently has determined genocide has occurred. Yet. But as it stands, no, neither legal authority has declared Israel has committed genocide

No. They’re referring to the fact that if Israel is committing a genocide then they’re doing the worst job at it historically. His implied question is, could there be something other than an intent to ethnically cleanse Palestinians that would better explain their poor “cleansing” results.

Do you think that the Holocaust is representative of every single genocide? Many historical genocides target a regional subset of an ethnicity. When Turkey genocided the Pontic Greeks, it was leaving the Istanbul Greeks alone.

If a crime of “committing genocide” exists and he is not charged with them, then he has not been charged with it. I have not moved a single goalpost. My only 2 claims were: 1. A UN committee has no legal authority 2. Charges of genocide have not been filed These aren’t hard concepts, nor are they difficult to answer with a simple Google search

So basically what you’re saying is that if a person/group TELLS YOU HONESTLY that THEY THEMSELVES intend to genocide a population they’re already killing off and starving intentionally (as per Netanyahu’s ICC warrant), then that’s somehow *not* a reason to believe that they’re committing a genocide???

upvote 1 downvote

If that’s what he said and that’s what it was, then the ICC would have no problem charging him with it. But clearly it doesn’t

You’re focusing too much on Netanyahu himself. If you look at the video you’ll notice top Israeli gov officials (e.g. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich) saying it along with a clip of an IDF platoon chanting it followed by “There are no uninvolved civilians.” Not to mention the fact that the video is literally from an ISRAELI human rights organization (B’Tselem) so if you wanna argue that it’s propaganda, you’d have to explain why Israeli citizens themselves would endanger themselves like that..
