kill tip culture idc if they raise prices 15% i’d rather employers pay fair wages. tips should be earned and extra money for great service, bc why the fuck should i pay extra for the bare minimum

In all seriousness, the only reason why servers choose their job is because pay can get up to around $50 an hour. Now do you all REALLY think an employer would ever pay that for their servers? No. Obviously not. If the employers don't pay them that much, then they have no reason to work that job. Do you get it? We would have no service at restaurants because nobody would want to do it.

They tried this in DC and all the servers protested it because they made more with $2/hr + tips

you ever met a server? At a good restaurant they make more in tips than a restaurant would EVER pay them.

No the restaurant hires you to do the job, which includes the back end stuff and service. They should be responsible for paying you accordingly, they are your employer. Otherwise, if I had the option to put in my own order and grab my own food I would. Because respectfully, that service is not worth an extra 20-25% for me unless I have a large group of people

This is probably because they got paid based on their service and not out of concern that they might not be able to afford rent

Some might not want to do it after experiencing $50 per hour, but there would be plenty of others who would be happy to do it for say $15-20/hr + the occasional tip for good service. I would’ve jumped at the opportunity while I was in undergrad

People will definitely do it still, but the quality of service falls. It’ll be more like the experience at European restaurants.
