Maduro ruined what Chavez built. Their human development score peaked, then Chavez died and Maduro took over, and decline was immediate. He destroyed what Chavez built. This does not justify anything, but he wasn’t some great socialist leader.

He wasn’t even socialist he was authoritarian capitalist who had to deal with some of the social programs his predecessor left

Chavez didn’t build anything. He kept the country dependent on oil and then neglected to do any maintenance on oil infrastructure.

Socialism is about giving the people the the benefits of national industries. Maduro made it so only he and his elite friends got those benefits at the expense of the people. That isn’t socialism. Its authoritarianism

I don’t necessarily disagree with any of this, it’s just gives a very weird vibe from a framing standpoint. From my perspective, and I could be alone in this, it reads as trying to equate state capitalism and liberal market capitalism. I 100% agree that he was far from socialist though.
