Right, Elon’s gonna pack up the entire mega-factory and leave. It totally wouldn’t cost his company more money and time to tear it down and build a new one somewhere else than it would cost him to just suck it up and pay his taxes like the rest of us.
But the billionaires will leave Texas 😂. Why do you think Tesla is incorporated in Texas?

I mean it might Texas gigafactory costs like 1-2 Billion. If I were taxing Musk based on unrealized gains (which I would) I would take at least 1 billion.

His net worth increased ~194 billion in 2025, meaning a normal tax rate would be like 35 billion. He paid $0 in federal income tax this year. Even when he did pay taxes that one year, it was that a much lower percentage than normal people- 11 billion in taxes for $110 billion increase in net worth. Only 10%.

This also ignores another key question, how many other places could he really go that would have a more favorable tax policy than Texas, even if things got a little tighter on him? Delaware? Maybe, but there’s not enough cheap land. Florida? Maybe, but the property taxes are insane. There’s no reason to believe in this theory of “billionaire flight” in the face of tax policy.

Right now, nothing If Texas started taxing him like Europe, yeah there would be a LOT of states to go to.
