It’s only been 3 months since he took office and here are some of the things that has happened: 1) Major crime is down 5.3% compared to the same period in 2025 2) the city is in a budget deficit of 12 bill dollars (they are bleeding money) 3) the NYC comptrollers office says job growth has dropped 4) many companies are still threatening to leave if his proposed taxes go through 5) no tax changes have been made in the city yet so obviously so companies are going to leave yet

“Crime being down is a good thing right?” “Yes and no.” The fuck kinda answer is that?

False reporting

#2 is a bit misleading. He inherited a crazy deficit from Adams and, IIRC, is still in the early stages of planning his own.

Yes it is slightly misleading, but he has no plan for decreasing the debt. He has a preliminary FY2027 budget of 127 billion, with very risky plans and underfunded expenses. He is calculated this all on the current wealth in New York and has not planned for the wealth that WILL leave if his tax hikes get implemented. New York is and will continue to bleed money under his current plan.

Isn’t crime being down from last year a good thing?

Yes and no. The number reported is very misleading (like all the statistics coming from the Mamdani administration). Those crime numbers are down compared to this 3 month period from last year. While that is better for the past 3 months, that doesn’t mean overall crime has been down and will continue to be down.

That number is also major crime specifically. Think like major gang activity. Minor crimes like theft are still up.

1. That’s a good thing right? 2. He inherited the deficit from the Adams administration 3. Job growth is down across the country thanks to the Trump economy. 4. They’re not going to leave. This article proves the point that they only say shit like that to get out of paying taxes. 5. Hochul just approved a tax increase for people who own second homes. It’s not enough of one, in my personal opinion, but it’s a step in the right direction.

So you agreed you lied and are being disingenuous throughout these points?

I’m not lying or being disingenuous. These are stats coming from the Mamdani administration. If those facts are disingenuous, blame them. Moreover, no taxes have actually been imposed. The second house tax is still only in talks. A 6 billion dollar project is on hold right now because of his proposed taxes. I mentioned the job growth because he promised to have a job boom within his first quarter of being mayor. First quarter is almost over and jobs growth continues to decline.

Please read all of what I said before commenting. The Mamdani administration is saying whatever they can to make themselves look good, when in reality have done nothing in his first quarter in office. Another point to mention, historically, crime is always low coming out of the winter, how low changes each year. Just because it’s 5.3% better than this time last year doesn’t mean much.

You definitely tried to pin the deficit problem on him while conveniently leaving out that it was caused by Adams. That’s called being disingenuous. Also the lack of job growth is happening nationwide. This is because of the Trump economy. The only person blaming Mamdani for that is you.

Did you read my comments? I mentioned the deficit because Mamdani has absolutely NO plan for paying it back because of his budget plans. I can blame him for not doing anything about it when he CHOSE to take that responsibility by running for office. I can also blame Mamdani for not doing anything about the job growth in NEW YORK. There are still MANY states around the country that have steady job growth even with the current national economy.

States and cities.

As I would again like to point out, Mamdani has a 127 BILLION DOLLAR budget plan for FY2027 that poses very risky plan and important underfunded expenses. That plan will ultimately add about 8 billion to the current deficit without any plan of paying back the debt.

These are in reports coming from the NYC Comptrollers office if you don’t believe me.

Sure, a misleading statistic about one specific type of crime being down is good 😄

“One specific” mind you the options are minor and major crime (two options) and I’d probably rather have major crime down

I haven’t waded into the job growth stuff, but I really think job growth is overemphasized in regards to the change in an economy. From a macroeconomic perspective, yes it obviously matters. From a ~we’re talking about real people who have to pay for things to live~ perspective, his focus on affordability is (IMO) more important.

It’s actually not just major and minor crime. Statistics are broke up into a lot more than that and only certain felonies are included in major crime. The stat is misleading because it compresses a complicated city into one shiny number. Rape is up year-to-date, transit improvement is thin, some neighborhoods may be worse, reported crime may undercount reality, and public disorder is not captured well by major-felony statistics.

Preventing jobs from leaving and creating more jobs is more important imo. How are people supposed to afford anything if they can’t get a job? Millions of jobs will leave the city and potentially the state if his tax hikes go through. They haven’t up until now bc there’s been no reason to (no taxes have been imposed).
