If you work in special education, particularly at the elementary level, you both deserve a medal and a pay bump of at least 500-1000% of your current salary. I subbed for a Sp. Ed para today and got beaten up, sworn at, and had furniture thrown at me 😭

In Kansas, the most common way schools pay for your Master’s degree is if you are getting your graduate degree in special education. That is such a hard job to contend with. It’s hard and deeply meaningful.

Oh I also got scratched, had to restrain several kids [even though my job actually forbids me from touching the kids but that doesn’t reflect the reality of special education and went out the window before I even reached the classroom] , had to run around to prevent a kid from destroying the classroom, had to break up at least a dozen fights, among other things.

Apparently the permanent para in my current district gets paid 800 dollars a month to deal with ts on a daily basis. I don’t even know how that’s legal.
