They use math to control for all the relevant variables, and yes the same concept often can be studied through multiple different natural experiments

except you literally cannot measure those variables. a macro environments does not work that way lmfao. saying you can control all the variables, or that you determine which variables are relevant is laughable. it cannot be both a natural environment and a controlled experiment, and youd be cooking up some wizardry to calculate your way into having a natural environment to experiment on repeatedly
