I think there’s a key difference between the Democrats and Republicans on this one related to their degrees of personalization. Joe Biden was a figurehead for his party, someone to occupy the chair and pass standard Democratic policies as a rubber stamp, but not actually its center. Trump IS the center of the Republican Party, and they are a cult of personality around him. Very different dynamics around their old men of choice.
