If we lost hundreds of thousands of federal jobs, how can we not be in a position where our job market is messed up?

The fun part is we genuinely have no idea because Trump keeps ordering the BLS to delay or cancel job reports

We only lost 250k federal jobs. Thats like .01% of the labor force. Even in an awful economy that's only like 5 months of added jobs. Mass federal layoffs are not responsible for our weak labor market

I’m confused about the premise of the question though — who is saying the job market is not messed up?

The ADP private payroll reports are still helpful though

Ripple effects of funding cuts impact contractors and nearby businesses (e.g. restaurants, cafes) though. The Challenger Report says 294k layoffs are attributed to “DOGE impact” and 21k are attributed to “DOGE Downstream Impact”. That ripple effect may still continue

But that’s 250k people who were employed and had experience. They are now competing for the same jobs that others are.
