the trend of “do your own research, don’t ask me to do labor” instead of explaining to someone why you believe the way you do is alienating so many potential allies against MAGA/the right. It started in the mid-2010s, it wasn’t always there, but it’s bad

I do think the left is particularly bad about this. Some people are so focused on moral grandstanding they forget about the actual issues they claim to care about

I see a lot of MAGAs pulling this as opposed to people against the cult. Of course my experience is all anecdotal

No doubt, MAGA does it too. But if we’re to actually win MAGA or divided people over (although idk how you can be divided at this point), we gotta start articulating WHY we believe what we believe instead of shaming ignorance

I agree with you completely. But it’s kind of hard to do that if you’re talking with someone who refuses to acknowledge the sources you present. I’ve spent a good chunk of my time, providing links and other sources just to be told “that’s fake news.” Like, wtf do we do at that point?

I think the key is choosing battles. Like, I don’t think internet discourse can win over hardcore MAGAs. But I’m thinking about a post where someone asks a genuine question in the comments and the responses are like, “do your own research” and whatnot, that’s a bit different.
