I mean, he’s not particularly smart. He managed to turn millions into billions, sure, but that doesn’t take all that much work. I think Elon is a symptom of a broader cultural problem we have where when someone is successful in one area, we consider them generally intelligent. Elon Musk is good with money, no denying it. And he painted himself as a STEM-smart guy for years too, though that isn’t even actually true. Neither have a bearing on political intellect.
The same way as I, a political science and philosophy major, would never presume to comment on astrophysics since I know nothing about that shit, this guy should not be listened to on politics. I think our society did itself a big disservice by labelling engineers as “smart” in general terms. Because now these engineers think they’re experts in EVERY field, and not just their own.
One of my old roommates was a pre-med guy, real smart in biology, older than me, went off to medical school, and honestly, yeah, I’d trust him to treat me medically once he’s graduated. Dude got into a great med school, and I’d trust his medical opinions after graduating from there. That being said, dumbest political takes I ever heard came out of that guy. Not because he’s stupid, he clearly isn’t, but because that is not the area he is informed on.
