I’m sorry but this is a dumb question. Democrats show up in off year elections and Trump voters stay home! The base is energized and the opposition is deflated!

The replies to this tweet are so bad. Like hello!!! Kamala Harris wins the election if the election is only held in Virginia or NYC!!! 😭

I mean you’re not wrong but I think it’s a combination of this + people being pissed off at Trump & the GOP at large, like for ex. Virginia went so blue and it might be because there are so many federal workers there and if they haven’t been laid off yet they haven’t gotten paid in a month and change

Real reason is we are in a recession and both trump and mamdani had the more economic populist positions. Basically people are fucking broke

General presidential elections are vastly different than off year mayoral and governor elections. I’m very happy with how things shaped up. But I’m not naive to how Dems own off year elections because we are nerds. We show up. There’s millions of Trump voters who do not vote if Trump isn’t on the ballet.

We did! The election wasn’t decided by the Dem base not showing up. It was decided by many first time and low propensity voters going to Trump.

All of that is true, but it’s important as political analysts we realize Democrats are the party of midterm and off year elections these days. 1 million less people voted in Virginia, that’s R’s staying home. Trump cultivates a huge base of low propensity voters. It’s been this way for a decade now.

The 2024 election had the worst turnouts in recent memory the result couldve been vastly different if it wasnt that way

Have you taken the median voter quiz? This shit will make you lose faith in humanity. It’s not just first-time voters, it’s mostly single-issue and zero-issue(???) voters https://www.americansurveycenter.org/quiz/
