I find it really concerning how it seems many people on both sides of the political aisle are starting to feel that our democratic style of electing the government doesn’t work for them anymore. We’re watching the social contract break down in real time

I mean, that’s what happens when the same monied interests bribe both sides of the race to fuck over everyone else. Everyone knows their vote doesn’t matter as much as some billionaire’s dollar.

Probably because it’s proven to be a failure

We have elections but those who are elected can't govern. Filibuster use in the senate has become routine so you really need 60 senators to pass almost anything even remotely controversial and that threshold is just unattainable apart from historic supermajorities. Majorities have been using a process called budget reconciliation where you can pass certain things with a simple majority but the process comes with significant restrictions. We're kicking the can down the road, lurching from crisis

to crisis. Without effective public policy, capitalism is doing what it does and grinding people up while creating stark inequality between those who own assets and those who don't. Climate change isn't being addressed. Gun violence isn't being addressed. Infrastructure is aging and decaying. There are a lot of things you need an effective state to do but we're so divided that we can't.
