yes absolutely propaganda. but ben gvir is only in power bc of bibi and vice versa. ben gvir has been a fringe extremist for years, he got a tiny percentage of the vote in the last election, bibi was struggling to form a coalition with a majority bc he didn’t get enough votes really, so he let ben gvir into the coalition for the first time to tip his coalition just barely into the majority (i think by 2 MKs)

for the last few years, whenever the israeli government doesn’t something ben gvir doesn’t like, he threatens to leave the coalition and collapse bibi’s government. bibi knows if his government collapses, he’s going to prison. so he gives ben gvir anything he wants

a lot of israelis hate bibi for bringing ben gvir and smotrich into power. ironically it is not uncommon for opposition politicians in israel to call bibi, ben gvir, smotrich, and the like “anti-zionists” bc of all the damage they do to the country. same way american politicians call trump “unpatriotic”

idk if anyone’s still reading, and obviously this doesn’t make anything about ben gvir any better, but a lot of the time when he says things like in that quote, he’s campaigning. his electoral strategy is to get a small but dedicated base of extremists that will be enough to get him 1 or 2 seats in the knesset. he knows the arrangement he has with bibi is probably never going to happen again, so he’s taking advantage of the moment to get himself a cult following

he is absolutely an extremist with too much power and he’s forced through a lot of really horrific policies but he’s also been campaigning since the moment he came into office. he knows this is probably temporary. he also knows it looks like the next PM will likely not be Bibi but a centrist/leftist who will shun him. i’d bet you anything if bibi loses the next election ben gvir will start a talk show or a podcast or some shit to make money off his base ted cruz style

Even Netanyahu’s primary rivals are basically just slightly recolored Netanyahus. Even the Israeli labor governments who committed atrocities in the past would be on the far left of modern Israeli politics. It’s inconceivable to have someone like Yitzhak Rabin in power today.
