I’m not against school choice but I 100% agree private schools shouldn’t receive funding

The rich already have school choice. I don’t see why kids from working class families who grow up near failing public schools shouldn’t have the same option.

“School choice” refers to legislation in red states that allows for government money to be spent sending kids to private schools

It also allows them to choose other public schools beyond just the ones they’re assigned to as well. And that I personally have no problem with. It doesn’t just apply for private school and their funding

They wouldn’t be failing if funding that was supposed to go to them were going to private schools. But this is also a larger reflection of how stupid tying school funding to attendance and performance is. Both of these stats go up when schools are well funded and students have access to everything they need, teachers are adequately paid, and the arts are present and don’t require massive student fees to stay afloat

If you look at the studies, overwhelmingly school choice initiative funnel funds to families who were already wealthy and sending their kids to private school.

Furthermore, the funneling of public money to religious private schools is simultaneously incompatible with separation of church and state, and does not support reasonable education standards. Under current “religious freedom” rules, religious private schools are held to extremely low standards and are allowed to discriminate against teachers, students, and families for religious reasons. Public money should not go to schools that teach the earth is 6,000 years old and which can expel gay kids

Right but these numbers only exist in areas that already have secure finances so they have high graduation rates, attendance, and high test scores. Schools that don’t have this DONT receive funding, because they don’t qualify, and aren’t included in these statistics
