I don’t think the athletes necessarily deserve to be booed for their country’s actions. Yeah they’re choosing to represent their country but still work hard to get where they’re at. Boo at the leaders like how Vance was booed at

Just to clarify, the booing seemed to be for Vance, not the athletes

The consensus of the organizations that run these seems to be that only Russia and Belarus are bad

Unless the athletes post against the country they need to be booed. They have a platform, choosing to be silent is choosing the side.

Low key that’s fair. Imagine working your entire life towards being a OLYMPIC ATHLETE, and when you finally make it, your country is hated by everyone 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 that would 💯/10 suck

they might not be able to if they want to stay on the team, just like how you can’t post negatively about the company you work for even if they’re doing shit that you think is wrong cause it could get you fired

that’s how most companies prevent their workers from organizing and talking about the issues that, in many cases, their company funds. Sometimes we need to recognize that short term stability almost always comes at the cost of long term safety. This is one of those moments. Anyone with a platform like that has power, and has a responsibility to use it accordingly in times like these.

these are literal olympic athletes that have trained their whole lives to reach this level, i absolutely understand wanting them to post about it but i also understand that they can’t risk their current positions, the whole ass olympics isn’t “short term stability” and while it would be nice to see i’m not going to hate on them for not saying something at this exact moment in time

While athletes were generally cheered, the loudest, most direct jeers were aimed at Vice President J.D. Vance when he appeared on the big screen.
