That’s affirmative action. Identity politics is kind of a higher-level concept that encompasses it I guess

Affirmative action is policy that increases opportunities for marginalized groups. Sort of related but not the point here. Identity politics is thinking having a minority/queer/woman president/mayor/whatever will magically fix everything, or even fix anything.

I think part of identity politics is the concept that certain characteristics make people more vulnerable to oppression. It doesn’t really say how to solve that
