Favorite slightly psychotic abolitionist + one of the greatest Americans in the history of the country for my money. Living embodiment of chaotic good

Again, he attacked the United States. It doesn't matter what his cause was. He chose methods that were violent and illegitimate.

Idk about NOTHING, the Pottawatomie massacre comes to mind, but when it comes to his efforts against slavery absolutely nothing wrong yeah

if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your metric for considering that wrong though? right before that happened, the city of Lawrence (a free-state town) was brutally attacked by people who supported slavery, and the abolition of slavery was actively being voted upon at the time. like the pottawatomie massacre was a part of his efforts to fight against the institution of slavery by any means.

(actually if I’m not mistaken, the attacks on Lawrence, Kansas, took place just days before the Pottawatomie massacre. it could be interpreted as a direct response imo)

Mostly the thing I see wrong with it is teaming up with white settlers to do it, even if they were abolitionists. More of a minor thing I guess, and it definitely doesn’t change the fact that the man was a hero.
