Probably not. Like I said Carter’s admin were the ones who successfully negotiated their release. Iran just wanted to fuck with the American public’s perception of the whole thing bc they REALLY hated Carter. They just would have found another way to embarrass him during the turn over (without being dumb enough to purposefully start a war with the us by killing them)
