Many of those are just counterparts to what guys do, but in many cases costing more money. Guys also need to buy hair care and hygiene products. I buy soap, shaving cream, shampoo, and conditioner. Much of makeup and fashion can be considered a “hobby.” Guys also buy clothing, some guys spend a lot of money on it. Guys buy shoes too. I myself even buy jewelry because I enjoy pewter necklaces.
ok but is your conditioner $80? my moisturizer is about $120, face wash $30 smth, retinal $45, sunscreen $30 smth, shampoos cheap only like $7, perfume $80+ but lasts a while, nails are $45 every 3 weeks, soap’s cheap prob under $10, i have a serum i rarely use thats about $210 but that was my moms. a couple face masks and other misc products but those arent routine buys so idk the price
I said “in many cases costing more money.” I know that women’s products often cost more. I use sunscreen. My brother spends hundreds of dollars on cologne and uses lotions. The thing is that a lot of fashion, makeup, and skincare stuff falls under “hobby” to some degree or another. For the guys who don’t spend tons of money on those things, they use it on different hobbies. Like I don’t spend tons of money on that stuff, instead I buy orchids because that’s what I enjoy.
oh and hair care products... my hair dryer is $300… but my hairs pretty healthy and i dont dye it anymore so the products arent bad. when i bleached it though i was dropping $200 per appointment and similar to that on products every couple months to undo the damage that did. my haircuts are $80 every 2-3 months tho
I mean nobody has to buy nice clothes or fancy makeup? I know there’s societal pressure but splurging on stuff to look nice isn’t that different based on gender. I know dudes who care a lot about their appearance (like my brother) and he spends a ton of money on skin care and cologne and protein powders. Many dudes just don’t have to prioritize that stuff (either because they don’t care or because it isn’t as socially expected) so they can spend that money on hobbies.
I was worried that I was coming across as invalidating your experiences. I don’t really think men hobbies are fundamentally different from women’s hobbies? Like I know women who share my interests in gardening and video games and aquariums. I guess maybe we men just have more money to spend on those things because we don’t have to spend as much for hygiene and fashion stuff. And men have more ability to decide whether or not they want to splurge on appearance stuff instead of being pressured.
