18-24 is very similar to the change rate for Trump, but the rate of change for older people with bush is significantly different. Taken at face value, this could either be the specific effect of policy on different demographics, or the result of something else entirely.

Hypotheses A: As people get older and their perspective becomes less salient and more rigid. B: A + Social media algorithms exacerbate this trend on the further end, and use the salience of younger people to trigger periods of rapid usage C: As people get older their social networks diminish, reducing the likelihood of new perspectives that shift established paradigms D: A is derived from the relative amount of uncertainty that a paradigm shift entails with more information + C E: B + D

If anyone can find an example of this with another president and then see if the relative change is different it might be insightful to whether or not social media bubbles impact young people differently than old people, but there also might be other factors involved even if the change is considered relatively and not just directly

In reality, it doesn’t seem possible that perspectives derived from social media are less diverse than those who didn’t have it, I would be extremely surprised if the relative change wasn’t larger.

D + the more behavior, choices made, and world view you have attached to a certain perspective, the more likely you are to focus in on information that does not make that perspective uncertain, and the less likely you are to ask yourself, “is this real?”
