Waco still hasn’t fully recovered from what they did at Mt. Carmel. From the outside in it seems like a freak incident that happened and then was over. In reality it informs the culture of the entire city. Attitudes toward government, what religious groups gain traction and what narratives they present to do it, so much of it is grounded in that moment of trauma and people coming to Waco for the first time often don’t even know that’s where it happened.
