Democrats in 1940: “We’re simply providing DEFENSIVE weapons to the reich. It would be absurd to send someone like Hitler OFFENSIVE weapons, that’s why we’re giving him defensive weapons.”

They should get no weapons period. If they lack adequate defensive weapons then they’d be incentivized to settle disputes diplomatically

Weird how you took away all the nuance about defensive weapons and preventing civilian casualties. I think every country should have missile interceptors

I see that argument, but doesn’t that assume Israel is a rational actor? They’re clearly not

There is no such thing as a “defensive weapon” that is just a misnomer. Even interceptors can be used on ground targets as seen in Ukraine and Israel is definitely not above that

I don’t think I’ve heard of Ukraine repurposing interceptors to target anything on the ground. Do you have a link?

Ah, I wasn’t aware of that. I think that’s a different scenario though. Russia is desperate and is willing to tolerate strikes that aren’t very accurate or may not even work. This is also a unique capability of the S-300 that most air defenses don’t have. Israel doesn’t have this capability afaik, except for one they’ve developed with India that can also be used for surface-to-surface but also isn’t an ideal choice

Regardless of system capabilities on paper every “defensive” weapon can be repurposed in an offensive matter, hence giving Israel more weapons regardless of their purpose is immoral and a bad idea that ultimately further destabilizes the Middle East

Usually, technological, physical, and software limitations prevent this from happening though. Like some of these interceptors don’t even have the range to be used as missiles to launch offensively. There doesn’t appear to be any evidence that any US-made air defense system has been used by Israel in an offensive manner, as far as I’m aware. For the US air defenses, it’s usually pretty expensive and wasteful to repurpose just to shoot something at your enemy
