Like I generally get why requiring say a passport is a bad idea cuz that shits expensive but most people have documentation like a birth certificate and a social security card. There’s a whole host of things you can use to verify when you do an I9 and we have the tech to idk just upload a picture of ur id. Or you could go to the county clerk and they could check you off during voter registration. Like a one time deal
It’s not about the concept of voter id being bad, it’s surrounding arguments. If I’m an American citizen and I show up to vote without an ID, am I out of luck? Do I have to pay for the ID or is one made for me? Where/How do I get the ID? Would it be close or far? Do I have to wait long to get it? These don’t sound like hard questions, but when you start to break down that people who don’t own cars can’t just drive to get one or if they have to pay they might not be able to afford it.
the reason people are anti voter ID is because every implementation so far has been pretty clearly an attempt to make it harder for citizens to vote. they add hoops that don’t need to be there, and they get upset if you propose lowering barriers to entry for people who are for sure citizens
