i think fertility collapse is overall a bad thing for society, but blaming the individual when our modern lifestyles make children more of a burden than an asset is wrong

Russians are now legally required to have kids, it’s pretty bad in the far east too

Children have always been a burden financially. The only times it's not the case was on certain farms.

children were not a burden when you could put them to work. max maybe until they were able bodied enough to feed the chickens

People used to have a ton of kids because it was an economic boon not a burden you nunce

Again not everyone was farmers. Many weren't. Children often became apprentices not gaining money until later. But even then still were a financial burden.
