 I cannot stand when someone claims a mass shooting isn’t a *mass* shooting because some arbitrary number of people didn’t die Mass shootings are shootings in large, crowded places. The shooting is just the initial effect, other downstream effects happen

Stampedes, tramplings, jumping from buildings, any other injury that is a result of the discharge of a firearm in a crowded place adds to it becoming a mass shooting. There is no theoretical number of deaths that magically upgrades a shooting from a regular one to a mass shooting

not to mention the amount of people who are also armed and take it upon themselves to wantonly try to defend themselves when, in reality, they’re just endangering even more people bc our country doesn’t have ANY requirements for competency in firearms prior to ownership… my alma mater had a shooting where a student in his first schizophrenic crisis shot & killed his parents in the dorm room. people wouldn’t call that a “mass” shooting but the trauma that it caused us still lingers…

i think the worst of that situation was hearing the helicopters flying overhead for the entire day, and seeing all the social media posts about people taking it upon themselves to hunt the kid down… suggesting that they’ll shoot and kill him themselves if they see him at all without any hesitation… that’s the part that horrified me the most, besides the parents making the decision to have hospital prematurely discharged him during the crisis so they could just take him home out-of-state… 💔
