It’s so sad that we live in a country where the president can unilaterally declare war without congressional approval anymore

It’s actually because Congress gave the president that power after 9/11 with their blanket AUMF that basically acts as pre-approval for every US involvement in the Middle East. Which was passed by both parties, only getting one “no” vote from Rep. Barbara Lee.
