If your argument to gun control is “Criminals will just find a way to get guns illegally” then shouldn’t we just get do away with all laws and let people commit crime with no repercussions

You guys always like to run with the prefatory part of that statement. "Criminals will get guns anyway, so gun control only serves to meaningfully disarm the citizen base" was never a quote about how law enforcement fails to achieve perfection (although I agree they are far from it.)

This comparison kinda relies on the implication that not only all crime is equivalent in moral value but that all crime should be enforced at equal levels, neither of which are true. It's a lot worse to kill rape or rob someone than it is to break gun possession laws, which are arguably victimless crimes.

The only part of this I really agree with is that the war on drugs is a fair comparison to the war on gun rights, both rely on giving up your personal freedoms (whether that be the right to bodily autonomy or the right to self defense) to stop a victimless crime
