Murder does not fix rape. The rapist should be put to death, because this is justice. The baby should be allowed to live, because they have done no wrong.

It also creates more victims that never get justice. Most sexual abuse is done by someone in the immediate family/close friends, and when little Suzy thinks her dad will be killed if she tells someone, little Suzy doesn’t tell anyone and more abuse happens. There’s lots of research on this but it’s also very easy to understand anyways. Honestly in my opinion they should die, but actually protecting victims is more important than my feelings about it

Would u prefer they suffer from a reminder of being raped everyday, and statistically abuse that child due to their resentment? Also, who’s to say their parents are willing to help (remember we are talking about a child here…) Most victims are abused by close friends and family, their parents statistically are likely to be the perpetrators in some way, if not directly. It’s not a decision we can make for an imaginary person, let alone a real one. That’s the whole point bro

Except if this was imaginary there would be no pregnancy. That’s the whole point. If you believe that there is moral consideration from the time of conception you don’t simply just kill it. If the child is traumatized from the abortion or not doing so is just a silly argument because not only is there no guarantee of negative effects, but you have to argue that somehow a life is not as important as one person’s temporary well-being which can treated with the help of therapists.

With all due respect, I understand the point you are making, but you’re here because your mother decided to have you. In a perfect world, where everyone does no one else any harm, I would agree with you. But the point for people opposed to Kirk’s view in this instance is that it’s ultimately our mothers who create our value because they are the ones that have to physically decide to carry us to term.

do you know the percentage of abortions that happen due to rape incest or medical emergencies? clearly not, because it’s less than 1%. Did you know that a survey was conducted that asked over 5,000 biologists when life began(conception vs birth), of the 5,000+, 82% vote liberal and 91% considered themselves pro choice. 98.6% agreed life begins at conception, and not a single person said it begins at birth. Stop stripping others of life because of bad situations, they’re worth just as much as us

upvote 23 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #14 3d

I understand that the majority of abortions are not due to dire situations, I’m saying that the option should be left open because the environment we’ve cultivated is incredibly hostile to people, and to women in particular. And yes, scientifically life does start at conception, but life and personhood are two different things. You’re saying you want to grant human rights to people at every stage of development during pregnancy and I think that is a very dangerous and nonsensical idea.

upvote 22 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #14 3d

And as for people’s worth, I certainly think that more people should be born and that children are worth everything, but I think it should be with intention and with the desire to have children, not out of a societal and legal obligation to keep the child, though I admit that last part is my personal ideals speaking.

upvote -6 downvote
default user profile icon

If this is accurate, it’s still a matter of choice. The point is whether a mother instills that value in the life she carries, that is her choice to make. No one else makes that decision for her. Not me, not you, just her. Of course circumstance allows for other people to come in and speak with her and deliberate but ultimately comes down to what she wants and what the doctor feels is medically feasible.

upvote 14 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #26 3d

You realize how insane that is? That someone can just not see the value in a human being and then make decisions like that but are thus justified?

upvote -4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 3d

I don’t see it as insane because life is not equal to personhood. Yes, human life biologically starts at conception, that is an irrefutable fact, but do children and adults not have different rights? Do we not jail people for crimes and potentially sentence them to death based on the severity of the crime? All of these things are a matter of circumstance, and life in utero versus out of utero is two different things entirely.

By enforcing that their rape victims go through pregnancy you are allowing the rapists to “win” as well though considering a decent part of the (disgusting) rationale is to have a sense of reproductive success. But please do force women to go through percent changes to their bodies and health because you value an unborn babies life over it’s already very alive and mature mother

that is such a dangerous precedent to set, we’ve determined that babies straight out of the womb know their parents voices because they have ability to comprehend, we also know that the injection of poison into their spinal cord is necessary because they fight and squirm if they aren’t killed before they are cut into pieces and ripped part by part onto a table. It’s not a decision, it’s a duty. If there was a way for the child to grow and live outside of the womb, then hell yeah. But in order to protect the human life within the womb, all the mother has to do is not abort the baby. Obviously in scenarios where the mother and child would die if she carried the baby to term, we’d chose to at least save the mother’s life. I think the value of life in general is just greatly underestimated these days

This, as well as personhood and alive being separate necessary distinctions. Something can be alive but not be granted personhood much like how children are alive but are treated differently legally than adults are. We know there are important differences in how to treat the 2 very alive lifeforms, why should a fetus be any different? It’s physically and emotionally MUCH more different than a child and adult ever could be after all

The point is the woman gets to choose whether or not she wants to keep the child. If she keeps them, great, if she decides to have an abortion, it’s understandable. The issue is other people attempting to decide on behalf of the woman when they are the one who will directly impart most of the labor to keep their child alive. I’ve seen people of both perspectives in this chat say that the woman should or shouldn’t, but in my view that isn’t up to anyone except them.

Yes children have different rights, but there is no dispute that they also have “human rights” and are considered human and thus specific actions, like what abortion is entailed, becomes an area for debate.
